About the Event

Richardson RFPD, an Arrow Company, has brought together industry leaders in the supercapacitor industry for this premier virtual event. The presentation topics will cover areas of interest to educate you on how the integration of supercapacitors can benefit the applications you serve. At the conclusion of these presentations, you can visit the virtual exhibition hall to engage and ask any additional questions you may have with these manufacturers. As a global distributor for each of these companies, Richardson RFPD is a convenient resource for design support and product availability to help speed your time to market. We thank you in advance for your attendance at our first Supercapacitor Technology Event. With your feedback, we look to effectively service your interest in supercapacitor technology and its growing adoption as a green energy solution.

Supercapacitors energy storage applications for VFD & DC power supply back-up / UPS

Supercapacitors can be effective energy storage for VFD & DC power supply back-up
depending on the length of time required.  This presentation will discuss configurations, voltage, time and other considerations.  We will review various applications where this approach has been effective and the need for maintenance test equipment.  Bonitron equipment solutions will also be introduced.

Integrated Power Back Up Using Supercapacitors

Supercapacitors are becoming a more prevalent solution as either a primary or secondary power back up in electronic applications.  Whether a single cell or multi-cell design, Supercapacitor technologies are ideal for supporting a variety of commercial, medical and consumer products with data backup, ride through or safe shut down modes during temporary loss of power conditions.  Learn the advantages of both Electric Double Layer Capacitors (EDLC) and Hybrid Supercapacitors in this session and why they are becoming the preferred technology for integrated power backup.

Supercapacitor usage in modern electrical utility systems

The beneficial growth of renewable energy sources, and the increase in decentralization
of energy sources has brought increased transient issues in grid supply.  To maintain system reliability, enhanced short term energy storage systems have increasing been deployed. This presentation will discuss the use of supercapacitors in these systems and the benefit it provides.

Supercapacitor use in IoT modules, energy conversion and low power electronics

Supercapacitors can be used to either exclusively power electronic systems, supplement existing power supply schemes or act as an energy storage reservoir during end load transition states.

The use of KAVX super capacitors will be discussed in two specific areas:

  • Powering Ultra Low Power (ULP) IoT electronics exclusively through energy harvesting recapture cycles. Supercapacitors are shown to eliminate maintenance costs and waste associated with batteries and result in a more reliable end system
  • Radial can, radial can module or prismatic cell technology packages are discussed as options for supplementing existing power topologies

This session closes by briefly summarizing the growing envelope of practical end application use cases based upon IC & system trends.

Ultracapacitor Principles of Operation, Construction, and LICAP’s Patented Activated Dry ElectrodeTM Effect on Performance Characteristics

The construction of ultracapacitor cells will be described at both the micro and macro level to provide a general understanding of how an ultracapacitor works. Knowledge of the principles of operation and construction enables the understanding of the factors affecting cell performance. LICAP’s Patented Activated Dry ElectrodeTM technology will be discussed with regards to the performance benefits it enables to Ultracapacitor, Lithium-ion Capacitor and Lithium-ion Battery cells alike as it is a chemistry agnostic technology. A summary of Licap products incorporating the Activated Dry ElectrodeTM technology will be provided.

How Supercapacitors supports more efficient transportation applications

This presentation will focus on how to integrate ultracapacitor modules into electrical power systems, mainly in the transportation industry.  We will walk through the process of effectively capturing the information needed from the target application and estimating the impact/improvement from integrating ultracapacitor systems.  We will cover different topologies for integrating supercapacitors into these systems and the different effects that can be achieved from adding supercapacitors to a system.   We will use an example system to underline how to go through this process and improve the efficiency of different transportation applications.
